Cathedral Cove Backpackers has always been popular with independent overseas travelers.

Cathedral Cove Backpackers is located within the Hahei Holiday Resort which is a large property located right on the Hahei Beach. You can walk along the Hahei Beach to Cathedral Cove. Our holiday park is also a short drive to Hot Water Beach!

Our backpacker accommodation provides clean, affordable rooms for cheap sleeps for overseas travelers, car rentals and bus tour groups visiting the Coromandel Peninsula. Our Hahei backpacker’s is listed in the Lonely Planet guide as a perfect location a pristine beach front, with camping, cosy little cabins and a sociable backpackers atmosphere.

Hahei Holiday Resort’s backpacker accommodation has several small comfortable dorm rooms, as well as two bigger dorm rooms and options for double rooms or private rooms.

There are separate bathrooms for male and female and a communal kitchen area. Outside is a paved covered BBQ picnic share area. TV and lounge are attached. An internet room is also onsite with lots of terminals plus WI FI access. Click here for more information on our Resort Facilities.

Cathedral Cove Backpackers is one of the oldest backpackers in New Zealand. The backpackers in Hahei began operations at the end of the 1960s, with a small one room cabin and tent sites. In those days backpackers were called hitchhikers and normally arrived on bike or hitched a ride over the dusty Taupo hill road, arriving at the gate just on dark. The manager and the owners are still the same family, to day, looking after overseas people.
