Local Activities

Hahei Holiday Resort is located in the centre of a great selection of iconic New Zealand attractions. From stunning white sand beaches, to bush walks and the blue Pacific Ocean, the Coromandel Peninsula is perfect for family walks, swimming, kayaking, boating and fishing. Our holiday park accommodation is only one hour walk to the world famous Cathedral Cove and a five minute drive (8Km) to Hot Water Beach.

The Hahei Village has a small shopping centre with Cafes and Restaurants. For detail on these services see the section on the Local Services page.

Cathedral Cove
A journey to the Coromandel Peninsula would not be complete without a walk to Cathedral Cove. It’s a healthy one hour walk (3 Km) from Hahei Holiday Resort accommodation and camping ground, along the Hahei Beach up and over a well formed coastal walking track maintained by the Department of Conservation. The track is graded for families and kids. Off the coast is the Cathedral Cove Marine Reserve, so you can dive with the fish and play with the dolphins. For more information go to the Department of Conservation website.

Pa Hill Walking Track
The well formed walking track is at the East end of Hahei Beach. The track is maintained by the Department of Conservation. For great views of the wild coastal landscape, Castle Rock Island and the steam cloud of the White Island Volcano.
The Pa site was the home of the paramount chief Ngati Hei who named Hahei.
Coastal walks at sea level below the Pa reveal more caves, sea creatures and fish. This is a great family activity, close to Hahei Holiday Resort. See the walking tracks page for more great hikes!

Hot Water Beach
Hot Water Beach is a New Zealand experience, not to be missed - just a five minute drive (8Km) from the Hahei Holiday Resort. Tide times and digging spades/shovels are available from reception. If you require tide times and surf conditions and detail check out the Hot Water Beach section of this website.

Boat Ramps
Hahei Holiday Resort does not have a boat ramp. Launch small boats of up to 4 metres from the Hahei Beach at the Pa road end from the creek exit. Surf conditions and experience are the limiting factors. For larger boats or for a no-drama-style launch, the Purangi River mouth concrete boat ramp at Cooks Beach may be the choice. Check our Google map for locations.

Fishing
Bring your fishing gear to Hahei Holiday Resort. Check the moon, check the Maori fishing calendar and ask the locals about the secret fishing spots.
