Swap your every day for our everyday, waking up on a 500m stretch of Hahei Beach in the Coromandel. Hahei is the gateway to world-renown Cathedral Cove. Still, for generations of Kiwi families who holiday here, it's the simple beach swing, the pohutukawas, time spent together, and the friends they meet here that hold the greatest memories. This is a place for humble relaxation, so we invite you to stay a little longer.
Hahei may be a little beach town but the locals know how to enjoy, respect, and conserve this beautiful coastal life. Every pathway from Hahei Beach Resort leads you to the ocean, where the possibilities of exploration or relaxation are all yours. There are magnificent scenes to be seen so ditch the screens. Let's go!
Get amongst the waves, follow a coastal trail, or head beyond the surf break to explore Coromandel's only marine reserve: paddling, kayaking, boating, fishing, diving, snorkeling, island cruising, and dolphin spotting, it's all here. And we are here for you. The Resort crew love this place. We roll with the seasons, so please ask us for our favourite spots to dine, walk, cycle and roam all year round.
Welcome to living like a local.
Wander to the top of the dunes to capture that magic moment when the light of the new day bounces off the ocean. Feel the warmth on your face as the sunrises. Everyone will agree that the Hahei sunrise is worth getting up for; it's simply good for your soul.
If you look to the south, you can see one of our favourite places kissed by the morning light. It's a short 20 minute walk to Te Pare Point offering a new 360 degree perspective of the horizon, the stunning volcanic coastal cliffs, and the Hahei Hills. This historic Maori pa site has stories to tell, and in days to come, you will take your own memory of this sacred place home with you.
Being on holiday means you get to choose how your days of relaxation and exploration unfold. As the seasons change, so do the opportunities to explore the coast.
You will have seen or have heard a hint of the Hahei Blowhole from up on the point. The Hahei Explorer can take you there. Book an unforgettable tour for all the family at reception.
Your morning walk can be a leisurely stroll, a gentle wake-up with a walk along Hahei Beach. Or stretch your legs a little further and get going for the day, local rumour has it that early morning is the best time to head to Cathedral Cove, a 2 hour return walk.
Te Pare Point at the southern end of the beach can be reached by the stairs at the end of the rocks. This 20 minute trail leads you to the most magnificent views of the Hahei Beach, Mercury Bay and the Alderman Islands.
Grab your coffee and morning essentials, the onsite store also has your food and other grocery basics for hassle-free holidays. Need ice for the chilly bin? Icecream or a good ol' kiwi pie for breakfast - sure, you're on holiday!
While you're there, check out the weather forecast, tips on the local scenes or the best ways to spend your days in “The Hei”, come and start your day like a local. The tide times are also displayed so you can plan the best time to go and dig yourself a hot pool at nearby Hot Water Beach.
Walk, kayak, water taxi, or cruise; you choose; the options are on our doorstep, no need for the car keys or hassles of parking at Cathedral Cove Walkway. The world comes here to visit “The Cove,” our very own slice of Middle Earth made famous in the Chronicles of Narnia.
It's a 2-hour return walk from the Resort to Cathedral Cove, head onto the beach, turn left, and follow the Cathedral Cove Walkway signs. Take in the views of Mercury Bay and Hahei Beach from the top of the hill too. Simply stunning.
Take a towel, your picnic and a water bottle. Once you've got the shot for your Instagram, you'll love to linger. In summer, there is a surf patrol and heavenly white sands to soak up some sun after a swim.
Allow some extra time and stray off the main path to Stingray Bay or Gemstone Bay, our local secret treasures. Gemstone Bay is also great for snorkeling, and romantics beware, this spot will grab your heart!
If you want to book a kayak tour or the Hahei Explorer boat tour to see Cathedral Cove from the water, check the tour times and book at reception.
Need a family activity in Hahei when you're on holiday? Snorkeling in the pure blue waters of the Mercury Bay islands off Hahei Beach is an epic excursion the whole family can experience together.
The local dive shop, Cathedral Cove Dive, in Hahei Village has all the expertise, gear, instructors, and boats to get you out there! Beginners to pros can take the plunge and explore the local caves, reefs, and sea life of Te Whanganui A Hei Marine Reserve. Bring your go-pros for this adventure!
If you have a few days, check out the options to complete the internationally recognised PADI dive certification courses. BYO mates or join a group heading out with the qualified team. We reckon this would be an awesome present for that hard-to-buy-for teen or the experience hungry adventurer we all know.
If you think you know Hahei and the Coromandel, think again. Legends of the local seas, Hahei Explorer, will have you venturing through ocean tunnels, huge caverns, and when the tide is right, exploring one of Hahei’s treasured secrets; a giant blowhole 80 feet high and open to the sky.
With the wind in your hair, get up close and personal with the incredible marine life in the Te Whanganui A Hei Marine reserve waters. You will be stunned by the purity and colours of the ocean, the cliffs and the sea caves. This is the Coromandel coastline untouched, one we respect and must protect.
Book your tour when you get here.
The turquoise waters, volcanic coastlines, and sea caves of Te Whanganui a Hei Marine Reserve will forever etch in your minds just why we need to protect our planet. Hire kayaks or book a guided kayak tour with Cathedral Cove Kayaks when you get here and see a whole new perspective of the Cathedral Cove waters.
Paddleboarders, these waters are a paradise for you too. BYO stand-up paddleboards, surf or boogie boards, staying at the beachfront means you're steps from the surf as soon as the urge takes you.
Kaimoana doesn’t get fresher than from the beach to the BBQ. Hahei is great for surfcasting, fishing, and foraging from the beach in front of the Resort or going deep sea to the Aldermans or the Mercs in the greater Mercury Bay. BYO boat, or we reckon the local charter has a few secret success spots. Ice, BBQs, and fish filleting stations are all here onsite at the Resort.
Hahei Village has everything you would expect from a creative community. The locals love great food, local brews and showcasing our talented artists inspired by our stunning surroundings. Check out The Yellow Door and The Lawnmower's Son with stunning art collections in Hahei Village. There will also be studios open during Mercury Bay Art Escape.
Pop across the road to grab a bite to eat, chill in the garden bar, or do a craft beer tasting at The Pour House, a local gem all year.
Ask us about the key for the local tennis courts, don't forget to pack your racquet and balls.
In the peak summer season, living at Hahei Beach Resort is easy. Many of you know that the good times for young and old unfold when beachy days blur into nights. We're excited to bring you more street eats this coming summer. In the same cool place under "the tree" by the playground, The Deck will be an awesome place to meet, grab a bite from Woody's Pizza, and the coldest beer on tap at Bar Hei.
The new Beach Buns Burger joint will be serving up cheeky delights all day long with brekkie options through to taking care of lunch, dinner or anytime you hear the kids cry "I'm hungry!". This will be flippin' great food, you're all sorted.
Locals love to keep this special place a secret! And of course we have a job to do to protect this natural wonder so let the trusted local guides from Hahei Explorer Boat Tours take you there. Best viwed two hours either side of high tide, the Hahei Blowhole truly is a tour highlight. Accessed only via a sea cave, the rock formation is 80 feet high - seeing truly is believing.
We have the best neighbours in Hahei Village, just a 15-minute stroll from Hahei Beach Resort.
Enjoy brunch at Hahei Beach Café, brews in the garden bar, and dinner at The Church Bistro all serving great food made with local ingredients. The Hahei General Store has you covered for all your grocery supplies. There's a liquor store, petrol pumps, bait supplies, fish n chips, and all your holiday essentials in the village too.
Mingle with the locals and enjoy a tasty local brew, great food to dine in or takeaway. Cheers!
You deserve the ultimate holiday treat - time for you to do absolutely nothing but be kind to yourself. From the top of the Hahei Resort dunes, soak in the hot tub and let the full ocean panorama and the clear night skies under the stars wish you a very good night.
Book the hot tub on the Hahei Beach Resort dunes when you get here. As the hot tub is outdoors, we have to let the weather decide when is the best time to enjoy this magic moment.
Sleep comes easy, with a calm mind and a grateful heart. Thank you mother nature.
